Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 1, 2026

Empower Capital Tax Advisors LLC ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect personal information in connection with our website (empowercapital.co) and our professional tax services.

Information we collect

We collect only the information necessary to respond to inquiries, prepare returns, and represent clients:

  • Contact data — name, email, phone, and business or residential state, provided voluntarily via our website forms.
  • Client data — tax documents, identification, financial account numbers, and other information required to prepare returns, uploaded through our encrypted client portal after engagement.
  • Usage data — aggregated, non-identifying analytics collected via a privacy-first analytics provider (Plausible). No cookies are set, and no personal identifiers are collected.

How we use information

Contact data is used to respond to your inquiry and, where you opt in, to deliver the Sunday Brief newsletter. Client data is used exclusively to perform the engagement you have signed. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

IRC §7216 and tax return information

Tax return information — any information obtained by us in connection with the preparation of a tax return — is treated under IRC §7216 and its implementing regulations. We do not use or disclose tax return information for any purpose other than preparation of the return without your prior written consent. See our §7216 Consent for the specific consent language used at engagement.

How we protect information

All client documents are transmitted over TLS 1.3 and stored encrypted at rest (AES-256) within our client portal. Access is role-based and protected by multi-factor authentication. Our Written Information Security Plan (WISP), required of tax practitioners under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act Safeguards Rule, is reviewed annually. Privacy operations are led by a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) on our team.

Retention

Engagement records are retained for a minimum of seven years to support tax-authority inquiries and applicable professional standards. You may request earlier destruction of records not required by law or regulation.

Your choices and rights

You may:

  • Unsubscribe from the Sunday Brief at any time via the link in every email.
  • Request a copy of personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of personal information, subject to record-retention requirements.
  • Withdraw any prior §7216 consent for a specific use or disclosure (subject to the terms of that consent).

To exercise any of these rights, email tax@empowercapital.co.

California, Colorado, and other state residents

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (including California under the CCPA/CPRA, Colorado under the CPA, Virginia under the VCDPA, and similar statutes) have additional rights, including rights to know, delete, and opt out of any sale or share of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the applicable statutes.

Children

Our services are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.

Updates to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
